Not only is February an annual celebration of Valentine’s Day, it is Heart Disease Awareness Month too! Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease and prevention. Although heart disease is common in adults, at times it can begin early in teenagers or young adults. Listed below are guidelines to keep a healthy heart.
Physical Activity — Set aside two to three hours per week for exercise that raises your breathing and heart rate. This will help strength muscles and circulation.
Eat a Healthy Balanced Diet — Choose a variety of foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, while trying to limit sugar based snacks and drinks.
Smoke-Free Life — Try to avoid smoking and secondhand smoke. Smoking along can cause serious heart conditions.
