Carpal Tunnel syndrome can cause pain and irritation, and affect a person’s ability to function at work and home. Injuries, genetics, and repetitive use of your hands can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition is a primary cause of lost time at work in the United States in occupations such as computer users, musicians, chefs or bakers, and workers in the home improvement industry.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which the median nerve, a nerve that travels down the arm into the hand, becomes compressed or squeezed as it passes through the path to the wrist. The most common warning signs of carpal tunnel include pain, tingling, or numbness in the fingers. Other symptoms may include:

• A swollen or full feeling in your fingers
• Pain from your hand up to your arm
• Weakness in your hand, making it difficult to pick up or hold objects
• Reduced muscle size around the thumb base
